The Wilmington Preschool of the Arts

Daily Specials

Monday/Thursday: Art

Taught by Mrs. Tara, art is an integral part of every WPA classroom. Art experiences in our classrooms contribute to creative development as well as to a wide range of skills in other areas including perceptual, cognitive, language, and social skills. Children will be exposed to a collection of different artists and techniques throughout the year and will then be able to display their masterpieces during our annual Spring  Art Show.

Tuesday: Dance/Big Body Movement

Our dance/big body movement class, taught by Ms. Molly, is designed to introduce children to the idea of expressing themselves through movement. Fun activities, such as stretches, yoga, beginning ballet, free dance, and beginning tumbling, help them develop physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially.

Wednesday: Soccer

The Little Hammerheads program is an outside program that comes to our school once a week to offer early soccer skills on-site to those who want to participate. Coach Lauren from the Hammerheads office brings balls and small goals and transforms half of the playground into a mini soccer field for a half hour of fun soccer drills and scrimmages.

Friday: Spanish

Spanish is one of the most spoken languages in the world and can be found all around you. Knowing Spanish offers more opportunities in several fields. The best time to learn a second language is childhood as the earlier someone is exposed to a language, the easier it is for them to pick it up and retain it. Learning Spanish boosts a child's problem-solving, critical-thinking, and listening skills. Ms. Estefania uses her Hispanic background to teach the fundamentals of Spanish through music and movement.
